Metal Core

We have a kid from another realm who comes down to fight in ours. He had a weapon break today and inside the core was metal. I told him metal cores fail and he tried to say that everyone alloys metal blends. I still think the book of war
1.3.9. A Weapon may not have a metal core.
is pretty black and white. I told him I would ask on the heralding boards because he says that on the smithy boards everyone said it was okay since the metal was part of a metal blend golf club.

Metal isn't ok, at all, ever. (Emphasis that period to him)

Golf clubs can be ok if they're graphite (Carbon), but not metal.

Also, for future reference, you'll probably get more input if you post questions like this in the Rules Questions forum.

I got the joy of seeing the broken weapon when I got home.

He KNEW it was illegal...he did all he could to cover it up and hide that it was metal. It is NOT a blend..it is metal with masking tape on it...lots of it so it doesn't sound like metal if hit against metal.

I've got his number though...magnets stick to his so called "legal cores that everyone uses".

All he's ever done is bend rules to suit his purposes and I've had enough of that...this rule isn't bendy. >:(

It's as rigid as metal.

Seriously, this is *, and this guy sounds like a real turd. Find the post. What's his username?

his name is Ryu. I actually kept the remains of the weapon. I try to hold on to good examples of what NOT to do. the core is a metal golf club shaft. the handle had been wrapped in several layers of tape before being rope wrapped. when the weapon broke at the haft end of the blade leaving a razor sharp piece of steel protruding from the now bladeless weapon. the most disturbing part is this weapon had been used by his admission at "several events" unnoticed. I will now be using magnets as part of my weapon checking in the future at our realms events, I am also concidering all out banning him from the realm after this. the metal core is just one of many rule bendings from him but this one actually endangers people for no good reason other then a lighter "speed club".

He's never used the word "metal" in a post. He did make this post:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28472&p=384796&hilit=+core#p384796

I'd ban him from the realm. That's not a **** around rule.

I will just bring magnets to practice and check his weapons. He can throw a fit if he wants, but I am an angry pregnant woman so he can't do much to me. :frog:

actually he's messing with a * off mom...that's assualt and battery as far as I'm concerned...he's KNOWINGLY endangering people...OH HELL **** NO!!!

I've had enough of Ryu's *...a good fighter does not knowingly endanger people...he is NOT a good fighter. That makes him nothing but a piece of ****.

I've already said I don't want him at practice any more...this I feel shouldn't even be questionable, definitely not forgivable. He thinks he's in the right.

K..done with my rant..back to my valium.

Just be aware that magnets don't pick up all metals.

Having talked about and thought about this situation while running Yestare this last weekend (Thanks again to all those who came out!). . .

How would you guys deal with it if this guy showed up to your event/practice with his own weapons in tow?

As Derian stated, magnets don't always pick up every metal.

My thought on how I would deal with it as Head Herald/Weapons Checker would be to have him strip down part of his haft to the core before he presents it to be checked. And just because I'm a * and don't want to hold everyone else up while we check to make sure a known douchebag is within the rules I'd wait until everything else had been checked.

Yeah, it sucks for him. . . but if he's been knowingly breaking the rules thus far, wouldn't I (or any herald) be justified in having a more stringent check on his weapons once we know? And wouldn't we be justified in not checking his weapon until we had some spare time to devote to making sure he's not chumping everyone with another metal core?

We came to the same conclusion Reverend, we had to figure out what we might have to do in the same situation since our realm and events are just a short drive away for Ryu. Our first thought was to ban him straight out of coming to our practice or events. We realized that is pretty harsh but then again so was what would have happen if that metal core broke some bones or worse. After deliberating we came to the same conclusion as Reverend. And we should have the weapons check at Chaos do the same if Ryu decides to come.

Would anyone else just straight out ban him from these events?

I am so glad to see you post Rev, he used you as an excuse for the weapon saying you yourself use metal cores. I plan on printing out everyone's responses so he can read them if that is okay with everyone.

Oh yeah cause we ALL know that Rev loves to break the rules. What kind of excuse is that? Someone else breaks the rules so its okay? Rev's shots do hurt but its not because they're metal cores but because he never pulls a shot and wants you to feel it. I know I feel it. Rev also consumes dangerous amounts of alcohol in large amounts that should kill most people. And if other people did that...acutally keep that one up Rev we might just weed out the morons in this sport.

He was just trying to say that everyone uses metal clubs, because the none metal ones cost to much. He named a bunch of guys from Rath, and Rev as an example. He was just trying to bully me into saying it was okay. I have a tendency to respond badly to being bullied, which is why I told him I would ask on the boards just to make sure I was in no way shape or form wrong. Then to see Rev call him an Moron, I guess it just made my day.

Yeah, he's full of **** if he listed me as someone with a metal core.

The only turbo-club I had was a carbon fiber that Nashova snapped over Ryu's shoulder at Sam last year. (I've still got it laying around if he wants to see it).

Everything else is all fiberglass.

If you want a **** turbo-bat, you're going to shell out the **** extra $15 for a proper core.

I understand that this is a big rules no-no and a turd move on his part, but i dont think we should be fearing this lethal metal core so much...i doubt it would hurt anyone anymore than solid fiberglass. (eh, food for thought)

But, it also brought up a question: What if i put metal around my core to up the weight, would that be legal?
As the rules say it, it seems ok. Should we change things?

The issue I see with a metal core is that if it snaps, it's going to be razor **** sharp. Fiberglass won't be nearly so.

the broken core being razor sharp was exactly what happened with the core this thread is about. I could litterally cut rope with it. sure any exposed core is dangerous but why risk it being a razor edge coming at someone?

Don't ban him outright. You have obviously told him he is wrong and explained why so explain to him that his weapons will be checked to a harsher standard than other peoples until you feel it is safe to trust him again. If he has problems with this he can walk if not he is free to stay and fight if he is willing to follow the simple rules that have been set down by WC. If he breaks the rules again send him packing for a week (time to make new weapons that have properly cured). If he does it another time send him packing for a month. Let him know he can still be involved in the realm just not in a fighting capacity for that time period. If a third incidence happens tell him that his continuation of using blatantly illegal weapons forces you to revoke his right to fight in your realm for the next year. He can still serve the realm in a non fighting capacity. Banning people is not a good way to handle almost any situation. However if he travels to an event and does this **** then the people running it are well within their rights to remove him from the event. I suggest doing this for each individual incident, that way the event gets the revenue from him and it hurts his wallet, most people learn from money lost.

Hit him with one of his **** metal cores until he can't walk any more.

What the ****.

Also, sometimes golf club shafts are composite materials, like a metal-impregnated polymer or something. The onus is on the foamsmith to check that **** out, but using one of those should be looked upon less harshly, I think, than a real metal core.

I would have to agree with Arrakis here.
If he knowingly built the core, even after the rule and a majority of people Blaintly said no metal cores.

Hell, I be an * and beat him with his weapon; saying I'm just testing out to see if your weapon is not made of "metal".
Also, I wouldn't outright ban him forever, just teach him his lessons on the field to about the HUGE problems of those cores.
All I have to say, that was dumb.
Common sense-- Metal + Foam / break-down= Disaster!
