Hey there Guys, i have some questions regarding my new position in my realm.
I have recently taken the position of "field commander" of my realm in Chula Vista. I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers/ advice on how to go about this. Helpful things would include: good game tips, how often to call water, how to keep people interested, anything really, etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
Char

Call water when noobs start dragging and quit running. That's when you know they need a break.

Great place to check out different battle types. Pay attention to mundanes, so if they wander onto the fighting field you can call a hold, till they clear. People should be smart enough to get their own water when they need it, but if you do notice someone who looks like they need it, I would suggest talking to them. At our home practices we fight for 2-3 hours pretty solid, then break for a few, usually 10-15 mins, and then back at it.

Keeping people interested is all about switching up battle games every few battles, so no one gets bored with the same stuff. Don't forget to do weapons checks every couple practices if not every practice, keep the field safe and all that.

Obvious stuff would be:

Waivers, Make sure they're turn in.
Weapon Checks, being the head of those.
Remind people to take shots.
Water breaks should you on yourself to take. But 2-3 hours then breaking is a good idea.
A good way to keep people intrested is dont have super long battles all the time. I know they're fun when your winning, but if you just die alot with very minimal playing time because of deaths, you dont get better, and you don't come back. So shorter battles work best.
Know the Book of War inside and out, Well.. At least remember most everything. Being able to call up the rules when on the field for like hits and such for newer players like shields Vs reds for example, or Armor being Hidden, ECT.
Host build nights maybe if you can and help people build weapons so you can help people learn to build safe weapons.

You said anything helps, hope this isnt insanely obvious, but i have no idea as how old or new your realm is.

My small bit of input would be to order games so that you start with smaller games and work your way up to big line battles, then do a few game types to wind down the practice.

For example: Cutthroat, kill your killer, tree of life,, knights vs peasants, line battles, necromancer, ogre, end practice.

Don't start with the big stuff first or people may lose interest when you switch to something smaller.

Not to derail here, but what is this "Tree of Life" game you speak of? Is it known by another name on the Geddon, or is it something different?

Also, Char, don't forget to encourage people on the field when you see them doing **** right, especially noobs. Like calling good honor when someone clarifies a hit when it's to their disadvantage to do so, and so on. Keeping a positive field keeps people on it.

Thurat, tree of life starts out as a cutthroat. When a person dies, he heads over to the designated regen point. When there are a certain number of people at the point, typically anywhere between 2-5 depending on the total number of fighters, they respawn as a team.

What the Geddon calls "Tag Team", or "Rotational Teams". Ok. Thanks for clearing that up Kyrian!

It's amazing that we have so many names for the same game. I've never had the chance to run an inter-realm event, but how in the world does one call games when everyone has a different idea of what each one means?

What really gets me is games called the same but VERY different rules.

Goblin evolution.
One hit kills, single blue, free for all.
Then add one hit shields.
then take the shield and break them into teams.
then give them full hits free for all single blue and so on and so on.
we even mix it up by giving the winners a choice of what advancement they want or designating certain advances based on who wins. such as the ability to use the off hand, tech(full hit shields and pole arms), or physical(full hits).
we play this alot and its never the same game twice.
We even use advancement to group fighters up, "over here is full hits, over here is shields and pole arms, over here is teams."
Take it home chew it.
If you have a decent bard make them tell the story. An entertaining story can make the game more interesting, at least while your switching up equipment.

This sounds interesting. I know I'm late to the discussion, but has anyone else tried this?

I'm bringing it up at our next Realm practice.
