The Armour Archive

Postby MagnusofDregoth » Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:45 pm

Hey, everyone, I figured I would get this in at the beginning. A site that has really, really great armouring resources is The Armour Archive. Go there. Bookmark it. Sign up for their forum. Read the posts, and post your own questions. I've learned a whole lot just from reading that forum, and the patterns they have (for most common European-style armours) are quite good as well.

People may give you crap for belonging to a LARP/boffer group, since many of the people on the forum are living history-types (who complain about the lack of realism in the SCA on almost a daily basis), but if you show that you're willing to learn and don't presume too much knowledge on your part, there shouldn't be any problems.

I have been usng the Armor archive foryears. I learned most of what I know from people on that message board. I highly recomend it.
Magnus is right about them being snobby towards our kind, though. Just don't tell them were your from or who you fight with. They don't need to know and wouldn't care anyway. Those people only care about one thing, armour.

I'm on their forum and told them what I do, they have yet to give me a hard time...

OK well there was this one guy, but he was a tard that had no eyes to see that plastic armour sucks... and another guy defended me, so I didn't have to. Just goes to show that all "living history," "SCA," or any other group has their chodes, and their cool people as well.

where does chode come frome i know someone who is known as da chord and he is cool.
do not hate those who kill you or feel less of those who you kill.
feeling proud is not as important as having friends around you.
the farther you fly the more fun you're haveing.

M.A.I.L

Maille Artisans International League is a great chainmaille page. I've been using it for some time. They have lots of patterns, pictures, and active forums with some very intelligent people in the field.

It is not as big as Armour Archive, but it should still be worth visiting.

i found this site for metal it selection is a little mor limited but it is easier to navigate and in my opinion has more reasonable prices than mcmaster-carr

In Draconic
Loreat mrith tiichi - Die with honor
Valignat ekess vignar - Burn to Ash
