Nope. First ya got your realism. Good luck finding that one historically. Heck, good luck finding that one in fantasy. Second, thats one of those "creative interp. of the rules" things. Something specifically designed to use loopholes to give yourself the upper hand. One of those "You use this and I will kick you in hte junk 'till your nose bleeds" type things.

The "taco" test isn't codified in the rules. They just say "rigid." How rigid rigid is isn't defined.

Good point Poeir. So for reference, here are the actual rules in the BoW and Appendix:
2.2.1. Shields and Bucklers are rigid objects that are padded on the front and sides, and are equipped with handles or straps. A Shield may not be constructed in a manner that would confer the advantage of unbreakable armor.

3.5. Shields and Bucklers
3.5.1. Shields can be destroyed by two solid strikes from a Class 2 Weapon. Subsequent strikes to a destroyed Shield continue into the Target Area on which the Shield is worn.
3.5.2. Shields may be used in any reasonable manner and still be considered a Shield.
3.5.3. Only one Shield may be used by a person at a time.
3.5.4. Shield Bashing, Checking, and Kicking is allowed.
3.5.4.1. A Shield Bash is defined as using a Shield to strike an opponent from a distance further than two steps away.
3.5.4.2. A Shield Check is defined as using a Shield to strike an opponent starting from a distance less than two steps away
3.5.4.3. A person may not Bash or Check an opponent's rear quadrant. Shield pushing or incidental contact in an opponent’s rear quadrant is allowed.
3.5.4.4. Shield Kicking of small Shields and/or Bucklers is discouraged.
3.5.4.5. Shield contact

Appendix A:
2. Shields
2.1. Shield must be padded on the edges and face so as not to cause injury when struck with a forceful blow of an arm/hand.
2.2. The maximum width of a shield is 3 feet.
2.3. The maximum height of a shield is 18 inches less than the height of the wielder.
2.4. The minimum dimension on the face of a shield is 12 inches.
2.5. Shield spikes are allowed for decoration.
3. Armor Checking

So the multi-section shield would fail rule 2.2.1

It sounds like you are trying to make a suit of armor that counts as a sheild.
Next time, type faster or use shorter taunts.

Or at least blurr the lines so they are indestinguishable. From what I could tell, it sounded like the shield would be attached to the body, and wrap around the side to cover the back, while still being held up by the arm. If you are trying for a shield-armor combination, the answer that has been given is No. If you are just trying to use your body to support the weight of the shield, try using a shoulder strap instead.

since we are on the subject, sorta...

could we rest a shield on our body while using the hands for weapons only and still use the shield?

There's one guy here (Cane) who has a punch shield with a back strap that he wears across the front. I don't believe it falls into the rules saying you can't have shields that act as indestructable armor, because it covers less area than most back shields, just on the front.

3.5.2. crops up in the strange situations. Like when I lost my arm, dropped the shield, and it stayed on end. It was still a shield while it was there, though.

The big problem with wearing a shield on the front (strapped to your body), is that it is just asking to be kicked. Which would be almost identical to you being kicked.

Both aspects of that are technically legal, though, aren't they?

Cane, mentioned in my previous message, is an excellent counterswinger, so kicking the shield would likely be a good way to lose a leg. Still, worth considering.
