Propaganda, I say! They can't compete with the Elves, so they must sink to low levels!

The character I created for myself is an elf, but for me its not so much as "being" an elf as trying to be that graceful and to have that skill and finesse that Tolkien's elves posses. I also love archery, so my choice of race was simple.

(Though I am often found sewing garb instead of fighting, mainly because I'm much better with a needle and thread than I am with a sword!)

I was a huge fan of Legolas till Orlando Bloom played him. Loved him in the books(read the series 5 times through grade school and high school). Don't know what it was, but Orlando killed my liking of legolas.

Also really hated the way Gimli was comic relief and Faramir was like his brother (both very slightly changed in the extended editions), but strangely enough, after the movies came out, I'd have to say my favorite character is Gimli.

Anyway, yes, original tolkien elves were badass. I mean, in the silmarillion, one of them battled Morgoth (the guy who called Sauron his *) and stood his own for quite a long time before finally being struck down. Gotta give him credit though, Morgoth was one of the 8 most powerful beings in existence apart from illuvitar.

Elves are elegant, beautiful, intellegent creatures whose dex scores that are usually quite high. Tolkien elves had high strength scores as well.

I think it comes down to the fact that they tend to be pretty boys and most males seem to dislike the pretty boys. There are always insults towards their sexuality everywhere.

Heck, I Hear gay elf jokes frequently with The Black Company. It however doesn't change my opinion of them. I might also note that they are usually lean as well and lack facial hair.

I don't think I've ever seen an elf with a beergut or facial hair you can find dead things in.

I wou;dn't sleep with an elf chick... Especially if we're looking at the movies more than the books... See, Arwen in the movies was all like "oh, I'm dying cuz the Dark Lord is getting so powerful" whereas Eowyn's reaction was to run out there in disguise, take out some Oliphaunts, a Fell Beast and the Witch King of Angmar.

Oh, and Miranda Otto is hotter than Liv Tyler. :D

If we're going from the books, then I think I'm still going for the humans... Yeah the Elves are sexier, but Humans are more - earthly... And you'll notice, that the hottest Elf chicks went for Human males (Luthien to Beren, Arwen to Aragorn). I think that speaks more to the point than just arguing it.

Because Elves live longer and therefore can afford to have a slower population growth curve. And they were all getting ready to leave for the Undying Lands anyway, so the immigration paperwork on a bunch of little kids would have been killer. And elves are naturally sexier, therefore Legolas can be a little pretty.

so you look at elves and most guy elves look like human chicks...

look at dwarves and most female dwarves look like human males...

Most humans will take elf brides, but not dwarven...

Most dwarves never score with anything out side of their own race.

then you have orcs that don't breed. They spawn. :P

so you have the strait race, humans, the gay races, elves and dwarves, and the ugly race orcs.

*! You used the word "pretty" through your own volition. You did not put quotes on it, as seen here, to mean that it is someone else word. You used it as your own. Also there is a wide aray of other words that you could of using in its place such as: attractive, beauteous, bonny [chiefly British], comely, cute, fair, gorgeous, handsome, knockout, lovely, pretty, ravishing, sightly, stunning, taking, alluring, appealing, charming, delightful, eye-catching, glamorous (also glamourous), prepossessing; elegant, exquisite, glorious, resplendent, splendid, statuesque, sublime, superb, flawless, perfect, radiant; dainty, delicate; personable, presentable. There for you have no excuse for using the word pretty, and have violated you own rule.

Also thanks for calling me pretty. :goblin:

Probably because we are posting on it.

In my opinion Elves are great, but only in certain situations. Firstly they have to be on my side; secondly they have to understand that any snootiness will be tolerated with the pointed end of my sword; and thirdly they have to be on the field with everyone else, and not in the commander tents telling the generals that their armies suck because they aren't elf armies.

Out of all the elves, I really don't like young Elrond. There he is in the volcano with the King and the King decides to keep the one ring instead of throwing it into the lava. Elrond just pouts and walks off. If I was there, I would have pushed that moron over the edge and have been done with it.

Just face the fact that you're just jealous of elves. Accept it and move on. It's not completely our fault that our race pwns all.

And personally.....I think this "Man law" should fail in and of itself. It's a useless set of stereotypes that do nothing but give excuse for the lack of intelligence found in many men. I'm proud to be a part of a "Gay Race". You know.....I find some offense in the fact that you guys are so offended over it? So someone said the word pretty? Guys can be pretty hot. Legolas.....not what I look for in a guy. I prefer.....different kinds of features. Funny thing.....Aragorn was more my kinda guy. Besides......archers........anyone can hang out at the back of a battlefield. It takes courage to rush to the front lines.

Just to reply to this, not all archers hang out in the back of the field all of the time. I for one have fought with bow & arrow directly in the front lines, engaging targets at mid-range. (within range of a javelin throw) Yeah, I ran away a lot, but I didn't always hang around the back of the field. And when I did, it was usually so I could watch out for and fight flankers. I have kept my distance and shot from afar a lot too, but I haven't always shot all the way out from Timbuktu or Katmandu.

Tor, not running away while using a bow would be stupid. You have no defense whatsoever against a sword or other weapon besides dodging while arching. (unless you have a backup weapon and you are really good with it) You also cannot attack with a bow (at least not very effectively) unless you are a certain distance away from your target.

Not only that, if your bow gets hit by a slashing weapon, it's over unless you have a backup weapon. Even then, most of your fighting ability has been crippled unless your backup weapon is a red sword.

What I was saying when I was describing my style is that I have been on the front lines with a bow on the field, just not at a ridiculously close distance to the enemy. (unless I get rushed, then I lose)

I short-bow arch when arching as well, and it is a lot more difficult. Example: I had to hold off Galin by myself as an archer during the shields vs. no shields battle two weeks ago at Beltaine. Granted, I died, but I also ended up getting him killed (thanks to nearby support) in the process. It is a necessary job that is surprisingly ignored.

Except by the proud. The few. The Elves. :target:

I read of Elves saying they were first, blah blah blah.... Wrong.... Hat Trolls are the oldest... We were here directly upon creation of the world.... You all came after us...

I generally have a rule about not dating other monsters, but then I found this on geddon.org
Part of the Hat Troll ideaology is that whomsoever is the 'biggest' is right...
Further reading reveals that
In some cases, several like-minded Trolls will stack themselves ontop of each other...
Fabulous.
