Screwit... On dag

Postby The Lost Celt » Wed Aug 05, 2009 9:25 pm

Been a fighter since 2000, newbie when the split happened, I faded out for a year or two and sprang back in.

Hate to air my personal laundry, but I'm based from Ohio, originally from Pent so things were pretty close when it all came down. Since than, I've had many interactions with both groups but honestly, I'm at the point where I want to avoid Rag, even if it's 3 hours away and arm is about five hours further, just because of the bigwigs in charge, no problem with the small fries but the censorship on the boards and general attitude bugs the crap out of me.

I'm at the point where I'm considering boycotting attendance at both local events and the national ones, once again I have no problem with the individual fighters, but I feel that the DBGA's aim is self centered and not beneficial to the sport, ergo I'm really unsure as to as how to respond when I have multiple groups invite me to the local battles. (which are minimal but paid events)

What would you do in this situation? I'm honestly torn between my love of the game and the big picture...

I envy the folks that can play both sides as well as Kyrax and others, but I'm just not willing to to do that...
Oftentimes I wonder how much better the world would be if more people drank bleach.

It all really depends on one thing: Are you still having fun?

I understand that sometimes the actions of another person or persons may be detrimental to your personal enjoyment but just ask yourself how many of those things that bother you are really necessary for you to enjoy the experience? (be it Belegarth, Dagorhir or any other organization).

You mention disliking the "bigwigs" but having no problem with the "small fries". From what I can see, the small fries greatly outnumber the bigwigs, so why not concentrate on them and start having fun again? After all, you only need one other person to do combat.

Pay no attention to politics, pick up a weapon, put your heart on the field and there will always be someone willing to partake with you.

Why do you give a crap about the politix?
Does the ruleset give you heartburn? Or can you fight to the rules and enjoy yourself?

If you are not having fun then why bother? If you are having fun then ignore the percieved idiocy and drive on.

I am an Amtgard crossover and dig playing both games (Amt/Bel). My perfect world would be 100% melee with no magic/projectiles, combat at 8' or closer. That wont happen so I make the best of it I can. I suggest you do the same.

Why are you complaining about this?

The more you complain about these bigwigs, they more you let them ruin your experience. Every time I bother complaining about someone, I am letting him interfere with my fun.

Just ignore them.

Went to Rag, only * of two people. I sold one guy from the same camp into slavery under Lady Fairy because many agreed he was being a moocher off most of the camp. The other guy was Dominus when I followed him with coconuts, Monty Python style.

Cant be that. It was more that the Romans started their march back to Rome, I and an accomplice followed few feet a way from Dominus for about 40yrds before he stopped the line.
My accomplice and I then agreed to stop and rode off, before we dashed the long way around to get to the other side of rome and continued with the coconuts as they finaly were entering Rome.

Don't pay. Events are huge and poorly secuered. If you don't like the manage ment, but love the general population, don'y pay. It's a good way to protest. You keeping your 10 bucks or whatever doesn't hurt the small fries you like but is a bg **** you to the managment.
Also, you could use your extra cash to buy booze, then use said booze to get some really obnoxious people drunk as hell and turn them loose at the Roman camp.

Sorry to step into this thread so late (been avoiding the Bel/Dag politics threads lately because I got tired of the drama)...

Ragnarok isn't run by the DBGA. They're in charge of a few jobs (chair of RWC this year), but the real planning is taken care of by the business council, which is (this year) Zaron (from Indiana), Tannhäuser (Ohio), and Leonidas (Georgia). And chapters from across the country are helping to run other jobs and activities (weapons check, scenarios, medics, etc). Shoot, security is run by Thrush, who considers himself to be primarily a Darkon fighter.

The Aratari / DBGA are definitely a driving force behind Ragnarok, but they're one among many groups that make it happen and set the tone. I don't think you need to let any animosity you feel toward the Aratari keep you from having fun at Rag, if you don't want to.

(I say this as someone who has lots of friends in the Aratari, thinks Graymael is one cool guy, and rode to Ragnarok with King Oron of Pentwyvern)

I cross game like crazy. I started with Bel, but there is a decent sized Dag group that fights near me, and a little farther there is an Amt group. Personally I have found that it is actually quite good for the sports to do this. It raises the awareness between games, it encourages cooperation, and gets more people fighting.

The way I see it, I get enough politics in my real life, so I might as well focus on what I enjoy, and that is fighting as many people as I can as often as possible.

the issues i see is that we as a game recognize dagorhir from ourleaders down to the newbs as an equal gaming system and outside a few people in their game, any dag fighter would be welcome on a bel field... but that courtesy is not reprocated. dag feels like they are better and their leaders like to strike dwn any convo of us asawhole.

There's been a bit of a change in the wind lately on the Dag Nat Boards. I even referred to myself as a player of the "B-game" as someone else there had said, and I'm still there. There seems to be a lot more acceptance of the existence of other games now, probably because, if you want to learn any thing about foamfighting, you kinda have to watch SKBC vids, Magnus's stuff, or something by Bhakdar, Brennon, or Peter.

Edgethrop and Halbrust, don't forget, regional differences in attitudes can vary a lot. In So Cal, Dag and Bel are the same deal, but it may not always be that way in other areas. Let's work togther to make any field welcoming to new people and cross-game fighters.

There has also been an influx of people who play many games (and are proud of that fact) while being really awesome to everyone in Dag. Right after the split, the only time Belegarth or other games were mentioned was due to TERRIBLE interactions between players of both games (like people going on each other's boards and trashing each other for example)... The fact that people like myself (primarily a Darkon fighter) do things like run security for Dagorhir's biggest event, or Arrakis who helps people not suck as much in a nice manner, or Kyrax who is just nice and informative have taken a more visible role, the web Nazis have taken a more "what is the context of the post" attitude rather than a "**** that guy he sucks" attitude... Just my observation: Being cool to others gets you treated well... Shocking I know...

As a newbie i must say that i don't see much difference in the personalities of the fighters. The political conflict is completely stupid, and shouldn't even be happening. we are all a bunch of wierdos who run around in costumes and hit each other with foam weapons. We are the same. the rules are maybe slightly different but that doesn't matter at all. it's all fun, it's all a game. we must chill.

Well other than my beef with just a few leaders of the DBGA I feel that I always helped and attempted to be nice (off the field) to everyone however I think I might be the 2nd most hated man known at a Dag event.

It is my belief that this is due to those vocal few who I fought on and off the field during the split telling everyone how evil I am and how I do all I can to hurt the sport. When lies or at the very least bias opinions are all that are presented they tend to become the belief of the masses and * the truth.

To be certain I am no saint and I have offended many with my inability to adapt in certain circumstances, but I still attend Rag when ever possible and I still do what I can for whoever I can in any foam fighting sport and that will not change. It is and will remain my hope that some day soon all of us can get the past behind us and for at least one event a year show up have fun beating the crap of each other, party like there is no tomorrow and leave looking forward to coming back to do it again.

Some people need to chill out and hug. Then beat each other. Then have cookies.

****, I’m slipping. Gotta work on my Darth Kyrax persona.

And no Onyx, you're hardly the "2nd most hated man" at Ragnarok. Your Oakleys on the other hand...

Hmmmmm....... after reading that I got: Rulers: The Aratari / DBGA
and Slave Labor: everyone else...
But- maybe I was reading with truth glasses on...

Fixed your post.

Kidding aside, it's comments like that which keep up the animosity towards Belegarth on the part of a small group of Aratari leaders. Like Ragnarok, the bulk of Dagorhir is run by the chapters and their members, and the vast majority of Dagorhirrim and Belegrim don't really care about this junk.
