Spring '10 Fliers

Postby Rasheab » Thu Feb 04, 2010 7:24 pm

Hey. Have to run out the door to class, but I wanted to get feedback on our new fliers for this semester, before I print them tommorow.

They are 5.5" x 8", so that there are two per page. They used to simply be a title, time/location, and website/e-mail, but I got a lot of feedback from RAs that people were interested, but didn't know what the club was about. (And people are lazy, so they don't e-mail if they have to write an addy down.) Thus why there is description and pull off tabs now. (The origional blank is available on Cib's website.)

Time/location isn't set on these posters, because we're still getting it sorted out for this semester.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think an action shot might grab the eye better. Being a college student and all, I know it's hard as hell to get someone to read something, especially with that much text. It's a good description though. I like it.

Just my opinion.

From what I've heard, "Medieval Combat Club" is what's been catching people's attention (posters and University club listing). But apparently they keep asking "what is it about?" with regards to the posters. So I'm giving this style of poster a try.

Also, while there are some action shots available through Cib's starter pack, they are in color (and color is very, very expensive to print). I'm sure I could -probably- work them out in black & white, and still have contrast, but it would be a lot of work to make that synch with typed font. (And while it is possible to design some really striking monotone black/white posters, it's tough, and a little hit or miss.)

I'm personally very pleased with how the current graphic turned out, so I'm likely to stick with it for now. (Not shooting down your feedback; just giving ya a responce in turn. Thanks for the feedback, btw.)

Right, but you want people to be left with questions.

When people have questions, they come to you for answers.

If the poster answers the questions, why come to you?

I was thinking of a flyer to stick around town at our local gaming stores with this text:

ARE YOU A BADASS? YOU THINK BADASSES PLAY DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS? YOU THOUGHT WRONG! BADASSES PLAY MEDIEVAL COMBAT SPORTS AND BEAT EACH OTHER WITH WEAPONS!

Good point Jimmy. Ideally the answer will be "people who want to play." Last semester I tried the cryptic version; and got very few people contacting us (from the posters).

Though on a plus side, when I run into people alot of the time they've at least heard of the club. So it's at least spreading by rumor/word of mouth. (I've got a job interview to be an RA coming up, and apparently all the head people know I'm in charge of the club. Which is a little wierd.)

If I could find a middle ground on the information, I would probably go with it. But I'm not really sure where said ground is.

Btw, I like your idea Azgarehta. Just so long as when they show up, you have Badasses to kick thier buts. ;)

In my experience running and organizing larger college events and groups, if attendance is important, then color is always worth the price markup. I'm a huge proponent of color in fliers, even if it's just spending the extra 5 to 20 cents on fluorescent paper (but full color is ideal).

I like the "educational" bent you give it.

Yeah, I -really- prefer color to. But I haven't been able to find a place which does color prints for less than a $1 each. I prefer quality over quantity, but 20 quantity for 1 quality kinda is the kicker. (I do need to check the print shops and Kinkos again though.)

Edit: so Kinkos online says that color prints are .30 a pop. The person in the store said $1 each. I think I need to go talk to those people. (The local Kinkos is notoriously bad.)

Too much text. Cut anything that doesn't contribute.

Cut "pre gunpowder blah blah".

Cut "cultural blah blah".

What you really want to say is:

"Seen Braveheart, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, or Lord of the Rings? Want to fight like that? MMCC wants you! Come to our FREE Practices and use OUR equipment FREE OF CHARGE! Beat your friends!"

Bang.

Sometimes printing shops have half price color printing on Saturdays.
