I truly do not understand amtgard.
I would never take being knighted so lightly as to have a joke shield made with a **** movie slogan on it. That is just dumb.
Not the shield, the idea that it's for a knighting.
I'll never understand that.

What kind of foam do you use that is black? Is there a big advantage to using the spray PD and then the paint PD? Awesome work!

Actually, it was not a Gag gift or a joke. He requested it, don't ask me why. What I can't get is how you profess to want to bring all the games in our area together but belittle every other game at every turn.

It is Black MC/EVA foam. The microcellular structure makes for excellent carving and very smooth surfaces. It's ideal for PD work. The Spray PD coat helps the next coats of the paint PD apply smother and more even. The paint coats go on thicker then the spray. The thicker the PD the longer it will last.

So, when someone post pics of their work(and I am talking about the stupid shield with "outa the way, peck" on it, which is a joke requested by a guy for his shield for his knighting) here, they are somehow NOT looking for opinions on said work? Funny, I thought thats was exactly why I posted stuff here and everywhere else I post it. If people have something negative to say about my work, I want to hear it. So that I may improve.

There ARE things I will not make for people. Several that I have been asked for. Becuase they are stupid jokes that rich kids are willing to pay for. If some one wants soemthing that will belittle our sport, they can make it themselves. I don't want their business.
This shield is a perfect example of that concept. To many, many people knighthood is a very serious acomplishment. It is more important than becoming an Eagle Scout, or being recognised by some church group. It is an aknowlegmnet from their peers that they are worthy to be considered a knight among knights.
Making a silly joke out of that belittles everyone else who has been knighted. If I was that guy was my squire, I would withdraw my support and make him go squire under some one else. I think it is utterly disgraceful to make a joke out of it.

BUT, Fitz does make fine shields. The shiell itself is very cool.

you make a fair point, i just think it is more of a craftmanship display than a theme/comcept display. i guess just because you have fun with something doesnt mean you have to belittle it. it does happen that people end up doing both, but they dont have to .

I did make a vader helm. But I made it as what it was based off. A black samurai helmet with solid rear lames and I put the trangluar muzzle on the mempo. Either can be worn seperatly. It is absolutly identifiable as Vaders helm, but it is very different as well.
I would not have made it like the movie helm.

How hard you have to work for it has nothing to do with it. If anything, working harder for it should make you take it more seriously.
And they have to do alot, but not more than the Knights of the Highlands, which to me, is the only standard by which Knighthood should be measured. THeir standanrds are very high and the work is very hard.

Fitz, awesome work.
I'm going to PD my big round sheild. I need the MC foam or whatever to cover it. Can you sell me some? Or direct me to it?
I want to make it planks with a bronze band(yeah, with the naked ladies!) and boss.
I'm going to do up a hammer, too.
Both for the new super monster kit.

I've only got 1/4th inch thick skins left right now (4ftx6ft) for $10 a sheet. Every couple months my foam guy gets an order so I can get it at his seconds/scrap price. If I go ask him to custome cut it that same piece would run my over $50 and the 1/2inch thick stuff I preffer would be over $100 a sheet instead of the $25-$40 I've been able to get them at.

For that monster shield you'd need 2 sheets but would have extra for detail work.

Again, not my design. It's actually the heraldry of a SCAdian unit out of the PAC NW area. And they are apparently dogs, not cats. I'll tell you what though, I'd rather PD this design onto 10 shields then Applique them onto another piece of garb.

Noodles shield finished, first time really attempting to paint a wood grain, found some kewl tools that will make it easier in the future, but not until after I'd already painting the base color to dark. I'll now better in the future.

Woodgrain on the back came out a little better I think.

There are a few tutorials on using these Faux woodgrain tools on the net, I'd check them out. The biggest hint I can suggest is to start with a lighter base coat then I did. When I started painting this shield I didn't know about these tools and had alrady started with a fairly dark base coat as I was just going to do a single color. Linden suggested I try this technique so I did, it'll be better in the future.

Oh, and the grain layer you want to mix "glaze medium" in with your darker color at about 60-70% glaze to 30-40 acrylic. then cover the entire base coat in the darker color, then drag the tool and rock it to get the grain effect.

As far as reflective silver I don't know what to suggest Patchiz. There is a Crome spray Paint from Krylon but I don't know how well it'll last. I tried the gold metalic on some PD axes but the paint cracked over time.

Scottsman,
You can put them on facebook and then you copy a link and paste it into the image thingy that you click. I think Remy the Worth did a little guide for people.

Couple more quick items I did for Crown Quals a couple weeks ago:

Mouse's small punch shield:

Fire Lord Mantel/Garb (having an Avatar themed reign):

FireLord PD Sword (obviously not legal for combat, it's a court piece, I purposely left the stabbing tip legal deminsions because I just know my boys will eventually fight each other and the neighborhood kids with it):
