I'm curious what the criteria are for a weapon construction being put on the wiki and why quicktubes are not on Geddon.

i suppose the simple answer is that nobody has put the construction for one on there yet.

More likely, it's because everytime someone mentions: speed bat, round sword or omni-blade it starts aa **** storm of ignorant blather. If I was editing that wiki I would be preemptively railing a handfull of oxies, just to deal with the "talk". That said, bats are actually quite simple and I've perfected a design that lasts me a month or two (before the core snaps). So, if there's genuine interest I can put something together, to spread the love.

Also, I found it amusing how 60% of the field at geddon rocked a round sword.

that would be cool, if you got the time. people's descriptions have been really helpful, but i really like when i have a diagram to go with the instructions.
but if the process is as miserable as it sounds, dont worry about it.

Whoever is telling you that making speed bats is hard, is a liar. Moderating a topic/discussion about said process? Sure, probably more frustrating than reading all this garbage. I'll make a tutorial, with pics and post it up on the Wiki, once I get back to Boise.

* Lt. Dangle here aside, Dangus' way of making round swords are pretty simple; I was able to make one from him explaining over the phone. Seriously, I have a oblong handle on my round sword, and rarely hit what would be edge with it even tho I'm using it in my left, when I'm actually a righty. Who knew, right? It's all about the planes and angles, and throwing proper body-mechanics behind it, as stated previous. If you find the time to post something simple up, I'm sure it'd help out a lot of peeps and might help to stop peeps throwing a **** funnoodle over a fiberglass core(that **** lasts two fights before the tip blows out lol). The best way to stop **** omni-clubs from littering the field is to preemptively show that there are better ways to make 'em.

yeah, i was referring to the trouble you personally would have to go through making the wiki entry. i know the speed bat is pretty simple and painless to make.

Sportsmanship. I truly believe that we can become so much better as both an organisation and as sword fighters through using heavier bladed weapons. So many really good fighters have gone to round blades and now throw sloppy wrist rolls that have barely enough snap to count. That is lessening the skill level of our group when it was just getting really good.

Name names. All of the good fighters I know who sling bats are killers who have been steadily skilling-up since long before switching to bats.

People talk a lot about what "people" or "they" or "some fighters" are doing but until you name names, you're just making stuff up. Quit theorizing about what people COULD do with a bat and tell me the name of a GOOD fighter who learned on swords, switched to bats, and whose technique is suffering for it.

Since this is completely based on my opinion of the Foam fighting world and will only cause a whole boat load of hurt feeling, AND we won't know if I'm right until later, no.
But I have been fighting for 18 years, man. I've been here, on ground level, watching the fighting world that whole time. I've seen alot of stuff come and go. I'm just calling this like I see it.
Shots are getting sloppy from people who used to be **** brilliant. The same thing happened when flails got really big. Then they became less popular as people fighting skills started to change from their widespread use. THEN really good people started using swords again. And the skill level noticably improved.
Then quick tubes started getting popular among the good fighting crowd. Now people are starting to get sloppy and their skills are starting to orient themselves on fighting with no real edge control. I beleive that in the near furture, this will become noticeable to more and more fighters and they will use Quicktubes less and less.
I could be wrong, but I'm think I'm seeing a pattern.

i really gotta say that forkbeard is right. in our realm one of our best fighters(i dont like to use local names without permission sorry) has awesome armor and a slew of PD swords. amazing dedication to the game. and in my opinion he was great with an edged weapon. and then he made bats. shortly after not only did i as a not very veteran fighter noticed his fighting get lazy, but his support of our realm fell away to. and he was the founder. now those are unrelated im sure. but as having watched this decline of effort in fighting happen i know that those fighters are out there. along with the ones who use bats with skill. not sure if this does any good but uh,,,take it how it is i suppose

im not saying that im just saying he kinda changed. hes still really good it just seemed like his fighting was different. i never noticed it until i thought about it reading this. im not insulting him and he knows dam good and well that i could discuss it with him face to face. im sure he can still work his swords just fine but the wrist rolls and stuff that fork was sayin just kinda popped into my head. but yea...on a side note..um your kinda starting to look like an idiot..at least to me which im guessing matters little to none to you.ya know **** with guy that already admitted he **** up. sorry im a bit drunk and dealing with the end of a two year relationship so im not exactly being nice right now....i did try to apologize to you man. yet you still feel the need to come at me on multiple threads. so yea thats really all i have to say. unless of course you have come around and your just doing the usual board thing..but i really cant tell...so if im wrong cool theres really nothing i can do about it.

Pointers for what? Construction? Biscuit a stick of .524, add a 1" 4# routed box and cap, wrap with 2# 'til it hits 2.6" in diameter, add a layer of blue and a layer of Pilates mat for the stabbing tip, make a nice cover, counterweight it up to/past 13 oz or so, love your life.

Practice more with your left than you do with your right. Drive left handed, carry everything in your left hand, use your left hand to *, pretty much stop using your right for everything for the next 6 months.

Ive always just done 2# barber pole wrapped only and it came out dandy :D I just thought the 4# box was for flatblades so the blade is more solid on the core (for twisting and flat hits)
Curious as to if it adds to the life of the bat...
