Learning to fight with this new thing

Postby Forkbeard » Fri Apr 15, 2011 8:46 am

So I made the thing, let's call it a 3/4staff.
It is 7' long and 3" thick. It has 38" of stiking surface in front and 18" in back and stab tips on both ends.
The idea is having a spear with a butt spike. Honestly, I would rather just have a 2 ended spear, but the rule say it has to be like this.
So far, I feel incline to go all kung foo staff with it every time I fight with it even though the striking surfaces are off set.
Im working on resisting that and concentrating on using it more like a spear.
Its a hell of a good time stabbing people with my pommel.
What do y,all think I should work on here?

Looks like there is a newish spear class.

Of course controlling range is where you would kill me.(being a sword and buckler type and such...)

Fight it like an Amtgard speed pole. Ask your local Amtgarders if you don't know how that is. It's basically fast fakes and **** like elbow picks down the outsides of sword blocks and shields, slots, and generally overwhelming your poor opponent with too many shots from too far away.

That, or just fight it like a short-ish spear and occasionally end-switch on a charging boarder and hook stab the **** out of them.

It is a very effective weapon, but it wont act like a spear. I suspect this is in my head.
I think im gonna make a spear this same length for practice to get me used to the range without the temptation to swing sideways. That really helps my glaive work.

Sounds awesome... I fight with something similar, but It's single sided so it can be red, breaking shields is helpful.... Oh but back to your question... Swing and stab long range and if you get rushed or chased , switch grip and use the short side ...

Hey Rabhas I know you're new and all, and that's awesome to see new people on the boards, but please in the future check the previous post date. Everything you have posted on is months old and could be left for dead.
