hand and a half sword

Postby Glithar » Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:42 am

Ok, i made myself a few weapons now and i have a question on labeling with tape. one of my swords is a hand and a half sword, meaning it can be used as 2 handed or one handed. For labeling this, should i just use red tape, blue tape, both, or am i not allowed to use a weapon like this? I could not find anything in the BoW on this so help from a vet would be greatly appreciated.

If it is over 48 inches in overall length, use red tape.

If it is under 48 inches in overall length, use blue tape.

The class the weapon must conform to is determined by the weapon's length, not the number of hands you can put on the handle. Two-handed blues can exist, but you get no benefit from using one with both hands like you do with a red. Also, some single-blue tourneys won't allow you to use a blue two-handed.

If your "* sword" is red, then red is red. If you use it two-handed, you'll score two points of damage to target areas and will be able to damage shields. It will only score damage the same way as a blue does when you use it one-handed, but it is still a red and will be checked at weapon check as one.

Thanks, that helps, But are you allowed to use a red weapon with a shield? if you use a red weapon with one hand, it doesn't have the shield breaking and two point hits, right?

You can use a red one handed and hold a shield in the other hand if you like. You're correct on it only doing Blue damage and losing its shield breaking ability.

Yep. If you use a punch shield at the same time it has been given the nickname of "punch and pie".

Weight has a factor on it being a blue or red. If its not atleast 24oz. Doesn't matter if its 48in. Or not. If your going to make it that long might as well make it a red.

If it is over 48 inches, but under 24 ounces, it doesn't pass. It's not a blue. It doesn't make it to the field.

I'd like to see the rule stating this. I was gonna make a 50" two hander that is extremely light (under the weight limit for a red) for dueling purposes. IF this is true, then I'd have to put a stop to it....

max weight and length for blue
1.4.1.2. A Class 1 Weapon twenty-four (24) inches in length or longer must weigh a minimum of twelve (12) ounces.
1.4.1.3. With the exception of double-ended weapons, a Class 1 Weapon must be shorter than forty-eight (48) inches.

tso that makes it to where a blue has to be under 48 in and 12 oz or more

and the minimum for reds

1.4.2.1. The minimum length is forty-eight (48) inches.
1.4.2.2. The minimum weight is twenty-four (24) ounces.

so no 50 in under 24 oz red for you :fingers:

It sounds like a tasty combo, I tell you what. Personally, I just wear a shield on my back.
I believe that style is called "cheating".
Or at least it feels like it lol

Build it on 3/4" sturdy Tonken bamboo and then weight it up to exactly 24.5 oz.

Hell yeah.
