EDIT: After reading Sir Anastasia's comment, I took a closer look at the image, and I realized that the rule that I quoted doesn't apply here. As I said pre-edit, I would still go for something more historically accurate. Though this is rather nondescript, it would still stand out on a field striving for a medieval feel. That being said, it would be perfectly feasible to research historically accurate garb for that time period in Japan, and build a cool kit around that. With 3 or 4 yards of cloth, you could have a pretty respectable kit, and it would look much better. You'll make your field look good, and feel better about it in the long run.

Also, good on ya for asking. +1

Although I disagree with the collar being modern - it has a very unique look that doesn't scream modern to me. I'm more worried about the unmodified t-shirt sleeves and zipper (though we don't have rules on zippers). If this were under a tabbard - I would say you could use it because it is not a stereotypical t-shirt collar. It is a neutral color and you can cover any small logos if there are any. Generally, we can't wear t-shirts of any type as garb without serious modification or covering it with more medieval pieces.

While I would urge you to get something less modern looking, I dont think I would disallow it at one of my events.

I see no major issues, but I would suggest trying to find something much less modern.

Do you know how to sew or know someone who can teach you? For the cost of this hoodie, you could buy enough fabric to make a very nice medieval tunic, especially if you use a Jo-Ann's Fabric coupon.

Thanks all. I appreciate the feedback. I still have a long way to go. I thought it looked appropriate for the style I'm shooting for. We will see how it looks when it all comes together.

Judging on what I can see and trying to apply it to an overall look, it seems alright except for the short sleeves and the zipper. It doesn't overtly scream modern though, so good luck with the idea.

I did a little digging to give you an idea of what a medieval impression of a ninja would have been, and I came across this:

http://www.livinghistoryworldwide.com/photo/woodcut-print-of-shinobi-in-shozoku-with-gear?xg_source=activity

That is a period wood cut of a medieval era shinobi and their traditional looks. While this image is not overly detailed, it gives you a general idea of what to go for if going for a period ninja kit.

Again, good luck!

You. I like you.

To OP, it would pass, but mostly because heralds are pretty lax on garb rules at most Bel events. I would recommend that you take the elements of that shirt that you like and apply them to a handmade tunic. But leave off the zipper. Zippers look awful.
