That's pretty much the perfect instructional picture on how not to protect a spearman from archers.

Nah, wasn't just you. I was shooting most of the day, and there was a complete and utter lack of any attempt by shieldmen to protect their poles. I hear that shooting fish in a barrel and taking candy from kids are actually fairly difficult things to do, so I'll compare it instead to, well, shooting completely unprotected dummies with giant "SHOOT ME" signs who weren't receiving the slightest bit of support from the shield line.

Agreed. I decided against picking up a spear after getting popped three times in the head by arrows and finally taking two to the head at once.

Opener seemed a bit weird, garb wise.

There was both amazing garb and absolutely awful garb. It doesn't seem like you often see both extremes right next to each other like that.

I know I was ashamed of my garb (minus my petitioners tabard) enough so that I'm overhauling and making a good set for spring wars, no more sweatpants and collar shirts for me.

It's Illinois.

That's how the **** we roll.

Actually, Troll was much nicer about Garb than I'd have been had I been helping up there. I have a tendency to yell a lot at people who don't wear garb.

Thanks for the pics everyone! They're fantastic!

I guess the archers were all on their game; it seemed like every 20 minutes someone went down because he got popped in the eye.

Weapons check went quick, and everyone seemed eager every battle. Great atmosphere, and thumbs up to Pack for keeping everything moving.

My videos, sorry there's no unit battles, and that the filming isn't the best. I wanted to fight this whole event, so i had my dad film. He got some good stuff, but i think i'm going to do it next time. And if people didn't meet me, i'm the one in the black kilt and white shirt that keeps getting zoomed in on. Enjoy.

i've discovered in what i deem as higher end fighting, that flails are a weak weapon. once you know how to chop the chain and block them correctly they loose their advantage and are only left with their disadvantages, less defense, and slow.

But to answer your question, no, everyone was using swords on their own. it was just open sparing.

everyone is so interested in my sword. And it is a sword, it is just round blade instead of flat blade. It is just the standard edhellen round blade, with my own handle on it.

34 total inch sword, 9 inch top of handle to end of pommel
oh yea and it weighs 18 ounces.

34 total inch sword, 9 inch top of handle to end of pommel
oh yea and it weighs 18 ounces.

Yeah, i'm quite used to round swords, completely kosher. Keep up the good work.

Eh, I don't care for the term round blade/sword. Swords and blades have a cutting edge and there is a lack of that on these weapons. The standard foam sword reflects that. While you might not classify the weapons as a club, I wouldn't classify it as a sword either. A baton is more appropriate. It's definitely a design that reflects the sport aspect of our game though.

About 50 pics or so here. Not the best quality, but meh, a picture's a picture.
