Nothing fancy. 1" pvc, I haven't ever made any red weapons from anything else. pvc is sturdy and with enough counterweight it can be quite wieldable. it's heavier than fiberglass but almost necessary because if the weapon size.

im going to have to say that you're small sword, while nice looking, wouldn't pass.

i went to the site, looked it up, first off, 3/4'' of foam on it, that's less than 2 layers of blue foam, and the general rule, unless it's a very soft foam, is about 3 layers of foam on a striking surface. also, that means that unless it has a 1 and a half inch core, it's going to be under the limit. i would assume that it has a 3/4'' -1'' core, meaning about a 2 1/4'' or 2 1/2'' width, and no weapon can pass more than half an inch through a 2.5'' hole, generally meaning the sword has to have a 3'' or wider width.

also, it says that that specific weapon is " For light to medium contact only" belegarth would fit more into heavy contact. the more larp games would use something like this, it's for lighter contact than we use, and doesnt have enough foam.

~afterthought- it says these are wooden swords, meaning that if it had a wooden core, it would need to be completely taped up for safety from splintering in the case that it broke.

all in all, not legal for belegarth

seconded

daedryk, use grip tape, go to a sports authority and tape up your handles. it makes them look MUCH nicer. also, try to use fabric, not so much socks and duct tape, it makes them look cheap and crappy.

definitely lose the socks. That's trademark of The Weasel King and you don't really want to be in company with that guy. But yeah, just go to walmart and buy some black trigger cloth (or whatever color you want) and and some all purpose thread and a needle and follow the directions on the wiki for making a weapon cover and it'll make you weapons look a whole hell of a lot better.

I found a pic of my old redswords. The tallest had a stabbing tip but it
didn't last past three weeks. They were all pretty unweldy, except for the
two smaller ones. Nevertheless, they were still extremely fun to use.

It flexes pretty much exactly 45 degrees, but it's never failed a weapons check

This is a small collection of Switchblade and my own weapons. ^_^ So its pretty nice. In the works anyway. They all need covers except for 3 of them as you can see. I want to make some flails, clubs, maces, axes and stuff like that but I dont know if I will get around to it. I kind of need a job.... lol. oh well here is a pic of our weapons thus far.

i guess i wonder why so many people make a 10 copies of the same weapon. All my weapons are completely different from eachother, and I think it's near pointless to have a heaping pile of the exact same blue sword.

PostPosted: Thu Aug 03, 2006 10:23 am

they're for other people to use usually. after all, your standard blue sword is the most versitile weapon on the field.

I don't know about that. Having a bunch of extra blue swords might help out for those who don't have a weapon, namely those just starting out.

o man i am defintly not trying to rag on anyones designs but seriously enough of the socks...its cheap yes, its easy yes. but it looks horrible have some pride in your weaponds take the time to sow the fabric trust me youll feel better about it when you get on the field and everyone marvels at your work....friends dont let friends uses socks for a cover!!!

Dagganoth wrote:i like my sock covers, i think that in most cases they look very nice, i use nice, neat, new, clean tube socks

EXACTLY

it would be great if he used new tube socks, BUT if you look closely apollyon, those are duct taped togather old regular "bent" socks that bend at the heel. if he were to use nice clean tube socks, it wouldnt look half as bad.

PostPosted: Fri Aug 04, 2006 6:11 pm

the bent socks you're talking about are commonly referred to as crew socks.

Either way, I still think sock puppet weapons are sign of laziness and no excuse is gonna redeem that.

sigh
ok so i understand that new poeple have a learning curve. new people are great. making weapons is great. so don't think i am slamming you for trying, not the case, but think of this

Socks go on your feet. Take some time and do us all a favor and represent the sport properly. Make a decent cover for your weapons.
it takes 10 minutes and looks tons better. If you can't make a cover what garb do you wear? It hurts the sport to have a bunch of **** looking weapons on the field. remember that if you look like a bunch of low rent idiots hitting each other with sticks covered in dirty old crappy socks, then thats what other people will think you are.

i mean come on, at least get some colored socks. Some red or blue ones wouldn't even be that bad, but if it's just a white sock with a gray heel and a caked in dog turd on it then you are just ringing the tard bell.

PostPosted: Fri Aug 04, 2006 11:17 pm

Socks look retarded and completely unneccesary.

The lowest I'll go to cover a weapon is to use tights or panty hose because it's a quick dirty cover that is nice and tight and is pretty much weightless compared to the over all weapon and doesn't look like complete ****.

seriously guys, dont bash the sock covers till youve seen them done RIGHT, i go out and spacifically buy clean, prestine, white, extra long tube socks, and stretch them tight so they have no visible toe seam, i mean look at my big barrel mace, its a thing of beauty

Foil - sissy pokey stick used in fencing.

All thrusty, no slashy. Neat idea, but it limits your options significantly, and an armored opponent becomes a serious impediment.

*, that might be fun to use.

Foil & Hammer

PostPosted: Sun Aug 06, 2006 6:59 pm
by RedBeard
The foil is actually a little short for me. I might try making a saber. However, with a different style of fighting (think SCA light fighting), it is actually quite affective as a double green against armor as well when thrust with two hands upon the hilt. The trick, is getting the chance to do so.

It will take a little practice, but is more affective than I expected (I expected it to be almost useless) especially when coupled with a quick blue in my left.

It was my first time fighting with it today, and I never though "dang it, this thing just stinks!" (edited for family friendliness)

The Hammer hits hard, but finally passed today after some tree beating to loosen up the blue foam. I like someone's suggestion of some more courtesy padding on the haft, I may do that before giving it to Mansquatch.

If this weapons has a weak point structurally, it will be the hammer head stem... I will have to keep whacking it hard to try to fail it, but for now it is staying secure.
