Blue Axe and 4# Foam

I have a whole bunch of Gold Gym 4# sitting around and a newbie friend of mine would love a hand axe. I have made 2 different blue foam axes before and they didn't stand up all that well. Do you think it would be a good thing to make the basic structure of the axe head out of 4# and then cushion the striking area with blue foam/2#? I was thinking that the core, probably 1/2" round, would make up the bulk of the axe's head and then build from there. Thoughts? Anyone else attempt this sort of thing?

For axes, from what I've been told, that's typically the process. However, it's my understanding that the best thing to use, instead of 4#, is a yoga block, which is an 8-12# foam. It's essentially an extension of the core. However, barring the funds for a $20 yoga block for a single blue weapon, I would say you would be safe with a very sturdy 4# base.

Yeah, these are what I'm talking about. They're actually a lot cheaper than I thought they were. The only time I'd ever looked at them was at *'s, and they were quite a bit more expensive there, I believe.
