We've been looking at trying to "period" up our tent more. A couple of problems we've found with actual period tents are either they have a lot of guy ropes which often mean that the tent has a footprint almost twice the size of the actual tent and the cost of pre-made tents.
Here are a couple of links to check out:
http://members.cox.net/randwhit/popup/http://currentmiddleages.org/tents/index.htmlThe first has some ideas on how to convert a modern pop-up into a "medievalish" tent. This is something we've been considering since they are so easy to put up, have a fairly small footprint, and pack pretty compactly. Unfortunately the second one has quite a few dead links.
We've helped Bo put up his yurt (I think it's either a 16' or 20') and while it looks cool as hell and has a lot of space, it's a lot of work to set up, take down, and takes up a large amount of space in the vehicle with the rolled khana, the canvas, and the roof poles.
