So, I have this tailor who makes me some great stuff, including he says, jerkins and hoods made from 4-6 oz. leather. He usually asks his clients to supply the leather and then he charges a sewing shipping fee. He said that deer leather is great for this type of clothing.
I also have this friend, who is an avid hunter. I asked him what he does with the deer hides and he responded that he typically dumps them in the trash. He keeps and freezes the meat.
So, have any of you encountered a situation like this? Have you worked with a tannery/taxidermist to get tanned/finished hides from raw animal skin? I don't know if this is more cost effective than simply buying the thinner leather from a leather retail/wholesale outfit.
Just trollin to see if anyone has gone down this path. We gotta have some hunters on these boards.
